I started gardening in Northern California (without parental supervision) in in 1978 after purchasing a John Jeavons gardening book - "How to From More Vegetables than you Ever Thought Possible." I gardened in an opening in the redwood forest with water from an upslope spring. Tomatoes and peppers didn't do so well, but cool weather crops did great.
I introduced my two daughters to gardening as soon as they could toddle. We love to garden and we love to eat the produce. Emma and Anna were told that if they ate a good dinner then "they could have a second cucumber."
Thank you for teaching the valley children these invaluable life lessons.
